The purpose of this AS & A-Level Technology and Design is to build upon the broad Technology and Design experience gained at GCSE. Also to provide a solid foundation for study at higher level in a range of engineering and industrial design areas of practice.

Coursework:
Product Development – The emphasis in this unit is on the analysis of an existing product or system with a view to developing either the product or system itself, or an aspect of it.

30 hour practical
Internally assessed and Externally Moderated
Session only in the summer.

40% of AS

Module 3 Nature of Assessment Assessment Weighting (%)
Unit 3: (Compulsory)
Systems and control:
Industrial and Commercial Practices – This unit emphasises the process of designing systems for incorporation in products and focuses on Electronics, mechanisms, and pneumatics.


2 hour external Examination paper.
Session only in the summer.

A full AS level is the equivalent to half a full A-level and that is indicated in the above table with equal weighting for Units 1 to 3 as for Units 4 to 6.
