Construction GCSE

This new vocational GCSE has been developed to give students a realistic understanding and experience of Construction and to enable students to develop a working relationship with the world-of-work. 

Grades available range from A* - G .The table below summarises the assessment arrangements .

Assessment Components

There are 3 Assessment Components

  1. one external examination
  2. two internally assessed and externally moderated work-related assignments.

Units 1 and 3 : Work-related Assignments

Units 1 and 3 will be examined through an internally assessed and externally moderated assignment.
Unit 1 relates to employment in the construction industry and has an assessment weighting of 35%.
Unit 3 relates to computer aided design and has an assessment weighting of 40%.
For both units, students will be expected to produce assignments which show they have direct experience of the world-of-work.

Unit 2 External Examination

One hour examination paper divided into two parts:

  1. Part (a) short-answer type questions based on theory from Unit 1
  2. Part (b) longer response questions to test knowledge and understanding of Units 2 and 3.
  3. Worth (25%)
