GCSE Biology - Syllabus No. 1010

GCSE Biology stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity and their interest in and knowledge of, phenomena and events in the world around them.  The Biology course offers a range of activities linking practical experience with ideas, developing key skills and encouraging critical and creative thought.

The course lays an appropriate foundation for the study of the subject at AS and A2 levels and is valuable preparation for careers in research, medicine, biochemistry, ecology, nutrition, healthcare and teaching, to name a few.

Content is in four major areas:

      (i)        Living organisms and Life processes;
      (ii)        Environment;

  1. Variation;
  2.  Microbiology.

Assessment covers these areas as two written papers:

            Paper 1  (30%)  20 short-answer questions;

            Paper 2  (45%)  6 – 8 compulsory structured questions;

            Coursework component  (25%).
