While it stresses the importance of discipline in terms of accuracy and presentation, it then leaves it to you to interpret financial positions in your own original fashion. You will gain a very firm understanding of the wider business environment. You will gain an understanding of how financial control is vital to business success and how, without it, even profitable firms can fail.

What skills will I gain from A Level Accounts?
When you have mastered the techniques of the subject, you will be asked increasingly to use them in order to analyse the financial position of business organisations and advise them of action that they might take to improve this position. This will develop your powers of analysis and critical thought. You will have many opportunities to apply ICT and numerical skills.
What extra activities go well with A Level Accounts?
Accounts can be seen as both a complement and contrast to your other A/AS level courses. Subjects that complement it are ICT, Mathematics and Economics. However, if your other A level choices involve essay based work, you might see the work involved in Accounts as a contrast. Where can this subject lead?
Accounts covers a wide range of knowledge and skills. In higher education it is a good preparation for a wide range of degree courses including Business Studies, and Accounts. It also has a clear vocational direction should you wish to pursue it and is an excellent preparation for Accounting professional exams. In the past, a number of students have completed A level Accounts and gained employment in Accounting firms
Do I have an aptitude for the subject?
A genuine interest in the business world and the financial aspects of business will lay a foundation for studying Accounting at 'A' level. In particular, the subject will appeal to students who have sound numeracy skills and a reasonable standard of written English, who can grasp and apply concepts and rules. They should enjoy not only the mechanical and computational aspects of the subject, but also the opportunity to be analytical, to consider alternatives and make recommendations based on their calculations. Good grades in GCSE Maths and English will be essential. No previous knowledge of accounts in required.
