Key Stage 3 English
At KS3 each year’s work is based around the NI Curriculum. Students will experience a wide variety of texts and emphasis is placed on developing the pupils’ confidence and making the subject stimulating and enjoyable. Tasks and Assessments are based on the three attainment targets: Talking and Listening, Reading and Writing.
Pupils are also given opportunities to develop the key skills of:
- Managing Information
- Thinking, problem solving and decision making
- Being creative
- Working with others
- Self Management
Students complete a variety of Media and ICT based tasks. Regular visits to the school Library also help develop the reading ethos in St.Louis. A KS3 Drama Festival takes place in October where each class puts on a short performance. These productions can range from Shakespeare to The Jungle Book and provide an entertaining and educational opportunity for students to develop self-confidence and self esteem.
Creative Writing competitions offer the students an audience for their work and the possibility of getting published either in-house or with external agencies. Students also participate in Public Speaking and Debating events. Assessment is both formative and summative. There are five timetabled assessments throughout the year which supplement the end of year examinations.
