Meet the French Assistant

In order to help the students who have decided to continue their studies with the French Language, the Head of the French Department arranges a French assistant to come in and help these students with their fluency and understanding of this language.

 

Opposite is a picture of Céline Georges. This is the 2005 French assistant.

In order for you to get to know Céline and what the life of a French person is really like I have decided to ask her some questions.

 

Bonjour Céline, Comment Ca va?
(Hello Céline, how are you?)

Céline: Ca va bien merci

 
I'm very well, thanks.
Ou habites-tu en France ?
(Where do you live in France?)

Céline: J'habite en Auvergne, dans le centre de la France

 
I live in Auvergne, in the centre of France.
Décris toi, s'il te plait.
(Describe yourself, please)

Céline: Je suis grande, rousse. J'ai les yeux bleus et des taches de rousseur.

 

 
I am tall. I have blue eyes and red hair and freckles.
Qu'est-ce que tu étudies?
(What do you study?)

Céline: J'étudie l'anglais dans une université francaise.

 

 
I study English in a French University.
Pourquoi l'Université?
(Why go to university?)

Céline: Parce que c'est le seul moyen pour moi de devenir professeur d'anglais en France. Je voudrais devenir professeur d'anglais en France parce que j'aime apprendre.

 
I go to University because this is the only way for me to become an English teacher in France. I would like to become an English teacher because I like to learn.
Pourquoi es-tu venue en Irlande du Nord?
(Why did you come to Northern Ireland?)

Céline: Je suis venue pour améliorer mon anglais, pour rencontrer d'autres gens et découvrir une autre culture.

 
I came to Northern Ireland to improve my English, to meet new people and to discover another culture.
Combien de temps seras-tu ici?
(How long will you be here?)

Céline: Je reste ici 9 mois, de septembre a juin.

I stay here for nine months, from September to June.
Est-ce que tu aimes ici?
(Do you like it here?)

Céline: Oui, J'aime beaucoup etre ici mais je déteste le temps irlandais.

Yes, I really like being here but I hate the Irish weather.
Vis tu a Warrenpoint? Aimes-tu cette ville? Pourquoi/Pourquoi pas?
(You live in Warrenpoint?Do you like it there?Why/Why not?)

Céline: J'habite a Warrenpoint. J'aime y vivre car mes colocataires sont sympas et la ville est belle.

 
I live in Warrenpoint. I like living there because my housemates are nice and the town is beautiful.
As-tu des ambitions pur l'avenir?
(Have you any ambitions for the future?)

Céline: Je voudrais avoir une vie heureuse dans mon travail et dans ma vie privée.

 
I would like to have a happy life both in my work and in my private life.
