The Present Participle
This can be used to describe two things which happen simultaneously.
Il faut réagir énergiquement en évitant de se battre:
You have to react energetically, while avoiding a fight
The present participle is formed from the NOUS part of the PRESENT tense.
- Remove the 'ons' and add 'ant'

The three exceptions are:
Avoir- ayant
Etre- étant
Savoir- sachant
