Child Development GCSE

A very useful subject especially for those students considering a career in health care, social and community work, childcare, teaching and for life.

Assessment:

Examination which is 60% of total GCSE mark.

Coursework which is 40% of total marks for GCSE. One assignment is selected from a list of titles and completed over a 12 week period. This is marked by your teacher and moderated by CCEA.

What will I be studying?

AREA	CONTENT
FAMILY LIFE	Parenthood and responsibilities, childcare provision, parenthood and pregnancy, preparation for birth, the newborn baby, post- natal care, stages of development in a baby, learning through play, childhood illness, family planning.
DIET & HEALTH	Healthy diet and lifestyle pre-pregnancy, dietary needs of babies and young children, food safety.
CHOICE & MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES	Common childhood accidents, how to prevent accidents, clothing and footwear, equipment for life and play, sources of information and support for parents and families.
