YEAR 8

In year 8, pupils study R.E. for 3 periods per week. We begin with a Year 8 Mass for parents and pupils so the month of September is spent in preparation for this. It is a time to get to know the pupils special talents and abilities. The course followed is the Catholic Religious Education programme – Fully Alive 1. Pupils learn about ; The Bible , Sacraments; the Life and Ministry of Jesus, The Eucharist and The Church. There are opportunities for drama, ICT work and wall displays.

The new revised syllabus for Key stage 3 (Year 8) is now up and running and working well. The emphasis is on thinking skills and personal capabilities and enables the students to develop as young people and contributors to society.

YEAR 9

In year 9, pupils follow part 2 of the Fully Alive series. They study such topics as Creation; God’s covenant with his people; Morality; and also different Christian denominations. During Term 2 they have an opportunity to visit a different local Church.

YEAR 10

In year 10, pupils study R.E. for 2 periods per week. They follow the Christian Way Series (Part 3), A Time To Live. During their classes they study among others, topics which include Islam, The Orthodox Church, Morality and The Gospel of Matthew. During this year they produce an ICT project on a particular area of study eg. The Orthodox Church.

Assessment

Homework in this subject is issued at the end of each class, usually consisting of writing , reading or research.

There is an end of unit test periodically, and internal exams in December and June, each lasting one hour.
