Dangers of ‘Texting whilst Driving’ highlighted at St. Louis

The experience of Sixth Form Studies at St. Louis Grammar School Kilkeel is about more than academic success. As Year 14 students prepare for their January modules, they took a break from their classes to focus on road safety issues and in particular, the dangers of using mobile phones whilst driving.
Sponorsed by ‘All State Insurance Company’, representatives Catherine McDonagh and Sarah Montgomery, emphasised the such dangers through a hard-hitting, informative workshop at the school. They also addressed other road safety issues with the aim of encouraging safe practice amongst the next generation of motorists.
Throughout the event students were able to use some rather familiar resources to learn more about the dangers of ‘texting whilst driving’.. Students learned about the dangers and tested a driving simulate on the familiar Nintendo Wii console.
The impact of the workshop was immediate. All students then made a pledge not to text while driving –via a their own thumbprint and signature. The presentation was an excellent reminder to students about the importance of paying full attention while driving given the large number of students who are currently driving to school or learning to drive.
