A preparation for life

St Louis pupils

Sixth Form (A Level)

The following subjects are offered at AS and A2 level:

Accounts, Applied Business, Applied ICT, Art and Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, English, French, Geography, Government and Politics, History, Home Economics, ICT, Irish, Mathematics, Music, PE Studies, Physics, Religion, Sociology, Spanish, Technology.

Students take 4 of the above subjects at AS level, and then may proceed to A2 with 3 or 4 subjects.

In addition, students attend enrichment modules in:

Personal Finance, First Aid, Outdoor Activities, ICT, Religious Education, Road Traffic Studies, Survival Cookery, Communication. These options may change from year to year.


Careers Education is a continuing educational process and plays an increasingly important part in the curriculum as pupils move through the school and decisions become more complex. It is an integral part of the Learning for Life and Work programme which begins in Year 8. The aims of this programme are to stimulate, encourage and develop within each student:

  • An understanding of the stages within the personal career planning process.
  • The knowledge of the wide variety of careers information available and the skills required to utilise these effectively in the personal planning process.
  • An awareness of the options available to them in the context of a changing labour market and associating changing career patterns.
