St Louis Grammar Kilkeel becomes first Technology School in Northern Ireland.
On Wednesday, 22nd of April 2009 Education Minister Caitríona Ruane, announced that St Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel would be designated as the first Technology Specialist School in Northern Ireland.
Speaking about the announcement, Principal Mr Kevin Martin stated
“This prestigious award endorses St Louis as a centre of Excellence in both Technology and Computing. St Louis will use its status as a Technology Specialist School to continue to raise standards of achievement and the quality of learning throughout the school”.
A number of community partners will benefit from the designation. Thompson Aerospace formally became the school’s major partner and sponsor in 2008. The collaboration has already created opportunities to enhance, enrich and develop the curriculum on offer. It will also increase motivation for all involved and will allow St Louis to further build and extend partnerships with industry to support the innovative and entrepreneurial work that already exists in school.
Mr Martin continued
“I would like to thank Thompson Aerospace for their participation in the project and look forward to working in collaboration with our other community partners. This collaboration will further enable us to offer more opportunities to enrich and extend the learning experiences for everyone involved”.
Mr Martin concluded:
“This is a great accolade for all of us, staff, pupils and the wider community and a real boost for the school in the current educational climate. Specialist Status will help us realise our vision for whole school improvement, a vision that is reflected in our innovative curriculum development and caring pastoral system. As a Technology School with Computing, we can now build on our current good practice and share our expertise with each other, our local primary and secondary schools and community partners”.
