BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2013

The budding young scientists and technologists of tomorrow recently gathered at the RDS in Dublin for the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition. The exhibition promotes STEM subjects while offering students a platform to present their project ideas with enthusiasm and commitment. This year six students from St Louis Grammar School in Kilkeel, accompanied by their teacher Mr Sean Donnelly, attended the exhibition. The projects were the culmination of hard work and innovation from everyone involved.

St Louis Grammar School in Kilkeel recently congratulated one of their very own teachers for receiving the prestigious Analog Devices Educator of Excellence award. Mr Sean Donnelly was presented with the ‘Analog Devices Educator of Excellence’, an award presented to a teacher who demonstrates high levels of commitment each year, exhibiting quality work on a consistent basis. St Louis has have been entering the exhibition on a regular basis for the last four years and Mr Sean Donnelly believes the event offers students the opportunity to research and investigate projects that they would not normally have the opportunity to do so in the classroom environment.

Quotes on the award:

Mr Sean Donnelly-
“As a teacher when an opportunity arises to showcase the innovative work of students, I jump at it. I feel honoured to win this award as a teacher in St Louis and must thank the students for their continued enthusiasm when it comes to this event. Without the constant support of my colleagues and in particular Mr Martin entering this event would not be possible.”

Mr Kevin Martin (St. Louis Principal)
“I congratulate our students in their application and initiative in entering this competition. They have presented themselves as great ambassadors for the school. I would also like to congratulate Mr Donnelly on his thorough preparation and motivation skills in encouraging the students with their efforts along the way. The fact that his efforts have been recognised in such a prestigious way is a wonderful accolade not only for him but for the Technology Department and the school”.

“Being the only specialist technology and computing school in NI Ireland our students are very fortunate to have excellent opportunities to succeed not only in technology and computing but all  subjects due to the hard work and dedication of all our staff”.
