St Louis Grammar


Music

Music at St Louis is studied throughout years 8-10 for two modules each year lasting 2 periods a week. It is mainly a practical subject incuding an element of creativity as well as musicianship skills and all important aural skills which are transferable throughout the curriculum.

Music is offered at GCSE and A Level including the BTEC in Music technology which is offered between the Music and Computing & IT department

Music is taught exclusively by Mrs McDonagh. However, we have 4 SELB tutors and 2 private tutors supplying individual tuition in the following instruments:

  • Violin and Viola
  • Cello and Double Bass
  • Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone
  • Trumpet,  Horn and Trombone
  • Guitar
  • Voice





Extra-curricular Music at St Louis is very strong with the emphasis placed firmly on enjoying Music making together. All students are encouraged to take part and have a go!

There are opportunities for all students to join the following set groups:

  • Traditional Irish Group
  • String Orchestra
  • Jazz Group
  • Guitar Group
  • Senior Choir
  • Junior Choir

Opportunities to perform on a Whole school level in these groups as well as in smaller vocal and instrumental ensembles including Rock Bands are frequent with the following events:

  • Annual Spring Concert
  • Regular Whole School Musicals
  • Annual Prize Night
  • Annual Open Day
  • Annual Drama Festival
  • Regular Religious Occasions including our annual Carol Service
